Àëåêñåé Þðüåâè÷ ÑåðãååâAlexey Y. Sergeev, Doctor of Medical Sciences,
Professor of Novosibirsk State University.

President, All-Russian National Academy of Mycology.

A. Y. Sergeev has graduated with honors from I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in 1997, then completed his residency and post-doctoral training under the mentorship of professors Oleg L. Ivanov and Alexander V. Karaulov.

After approving Ph.D. thesis on chronic candidiasis and D.Sc.Med. degree (habilitation) on superficial fungal infections, he was elected full-time professor of Clinical Immunology Department of his alma mater, for several terms.

Since 2021, he is reading medical mycology at Novosibirsk State Medical University.

A.Y. Sergeev is one of co-founders of nation-wide Public Organisations of scientists, All-Russian National Academy of Mycology, active in most regions of Russia. Serving as Secretary General since 2002, he was elected President of Academy in 2025.

His works in mycology include major titles as "Candidosis" (2001), "New in systematics and nomenclature of fungi" (2003), "Fungal Infections" (2003 and 2008), "Introduction to Genetics of Fungi" (2005).

He edits Russian series of yearbooks "Advances in Medical Mycology" and "Mycology Today" (since 2011).

Before 2022, he was active on boards and councils of international bodies concerning mycology like ISHAM, FEMS and ESCMID, participated as editor, guest editor and/or member of editorial board in such editions like Mycological Progress, Mikologia Lekarska, Mycology Newsletter.

His current research interest is epidemiology of superficial fungal infections, resistance to antifungals and infections following immunobiologic and immunosupressive therapy in dermatology.

His other works include books on particular fungal infections, atopic dermatitis, drug allergies, as well as chapters in major national guidelines and multi-volume textbooks on dermatology.

In many of them he was co-author of Yuri V. Sergeev.

A.Y. Sergeev is on editorial board of Russian Journal of Skin and Venereal Disease, Clinical Dermatology and Venereology, Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics.

Since 1999, he put his effort in developing this journal, 'Immunopathology, Allergology, Infectology', making it free and open to publications of younger scientists from all over Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States.

He follows idea of a modern journal of Russian authors, interesting for both researchers and clinicians, building independent research communities to promote Russian as language of future immunology, and bring further teachings of Mechnikov, Sechenov and Pavlov.
